ABSTRACT

Cicims, different appearences in two sided, are weavings in which the third thread is used for ornamentation except weft and warp. Cicims are meaned in different types such as cecim, cacım, çalma, çelme in society. Cacım is meaned for cicim In Bitlis area. There are two different kinds of cicims in the province of Bitlis. These are weft face and warp face cicims. Mostly warp-faced cicims are done in the territory. Weft-faced cicim are rarely found in mosques. For warp-faced cicims, weft and warp is used except pattern thread. Since pattern is combined with warp, it is called “warp faced cicim”. In this article, it is aimed examine cicim woven in terms of techniques, color, design and composition features in Bitlis which is an important weaving centre from past to present. For this purpose, using the research method of face to face interviews and observational research methods study was carried out in the province of Bitlis and districts. In the field study ten cicim samples, studied in the field area in different aspects such as technique, colour, pattern aspects, fact sheets with photographs and pattern drawings are added to the article. The cicims in the article are made of wool, animal hair and orlon three of which are runner veavings, two are pouches, two are prayer rugs, one is pillow, one is big weaving and one is storage cover. As a result of study, weftfaced the cicim weaving was dropped many years ago and the warp-faced cicim weaving is done until recently but today it was determined that left its completely.
