ABSTRACT

In a globalized world, it is important to know a foreign language in terms of communication, but in universities where knowledge is produced, foreign language is a basic requirement. The aim of this study is to describe the relationship between the level of foreign language and fields of foreign language use of academicians. This study was conducted to Trakya University Academicians in the 2014-2015 academic years. 269 academicians participated in the study. Two scales were used in the study. The data were obtained through the standard measurement tool 'Common European Framework for Languages-Common Level Recommendations for General Steps - A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2’. The second scale consists of 17 items including fields of foreign language use, which have academic, educational and personal purposes. This study was carried out on the relational model and conducted with a descriptive approach. Consequently, a certain level was identified between the level of foreign language of academicians and fields of their language use. As a result of this study, it was observed that the more the level was, the more the number of areas of using foreign language increase. The data were reviewed with the concepts of reading comprehension and writing in a foreign language.
