ABSTRACT

The multi-cultural education is defined as an interdisciplinary process that enables students to live, learn and to work together for common purposes in the multi-cultural World. The most suitable course to incorporate multiculturalism into the education and teaching field is the social studies course. The aim of this research is to reveal how much and how the multi-cultural education has been studied in the social studies teaching programs that has been applied from past to present. In order to realize this aim, the data was collected from the social studies programs belonging to those which were applied in 1961, 1962, 1968, 1988, 1993, 1998 and 2005 years by the document analysis and then that data was exposed to the content analysis. When the general aims and gains of the social studies teaching programs were analysed, it was found out that the expressions related to the multi-cultural education have been mentioned more and more frequently in every program than the previous one.
